RULES OF COMPETITION
To keep the tournament fair, fun, and competitive, all players are expected to follow the official Heart in the Game rules of play. From team structure to game flow and conduct, these guidelines ensure a high-level experience for everyone on the court.
Team Composition
This is a co-ed tournament with a twist: Teams must have 7–8 players, including at least 2 females and 2 current TMU students (alumni do not count).

Teams may also nominate a non-playing “coach” to manage strategy, subs, fouls, and timeouts. Choose your roster wisely.
Game Play
Games are 4-on-4, co-ed at all times.
Initial possession via coin toss; play resumes with a “check-ball” at the 3-point arc after each basket.

Half-court format; clear the ball past the 3-point line after change of possession.
Substitutions
Unlimited, but only during dead-ball situations or timeouts.
Players must raise their hand to signal they’re entering.
Game Length
Two 15-minute halves, running time.
Two timeouts per team (second half only).
Overtime = 2 minutes + 1 timeout per team.
Fouls
Team fouls capped at 7/half → 1-and-1 free throws (NCAA style).
5 fouls/player → disqualification.
Flagrant fouls or disrespectful behavior = technical + disqualification + 2 free throws for the opposing team.
Respect the Refs
No challenges to referee calls.
Referees & scorekeepers are volunteers, please treat them with respect.
Governing Rules
Standard NBA rules apply unless stated otherwise.
Most Importantly
Have fun, play hard, and keep the spirit of the game alive!
